Beard Balm, what is it and how do I use it?
Why do I even need Beard Balm? Doesn't my hair just look after itself?
To a degree yes, however as the hair starts to grow you will notice it will begin to dry and have a general 'Rough' feeling, you may suffer from beard itch, irritated skin or the dreaded beard dandruff or beardruff as its known.
The science bit aka why the hair dries out:
Your skin produces an oil called sebum oil which is naturally produced by your sebaceous glands.
Sooner or later, depending how much sebum oil you produce (we all produce different amounts), your beard will begin to outpace the sebum oil needed to stay healthy/hydrated.
Why does this matter?
You see once you beard gets too long, it will start to dry out. this is more often found in curly beards.
The texture of the beard matters because it affects how quickly sebum works its way from your roots through the length of your hair. Coarse or curly hair slows down sebum's spread, so if you have hair like this you will need to apply balm and oil more often. Someone with poker straight hair will put up less resistance to the spread of sebum so needs to replenish less often.
As with any area of your skin, once it becomes dry, your skin will begin to flake and become irritable; this is the point at which Beardruff appears.
We conducted alot of research to create products that contains natural ingredients that most closely resemble the oil that your skin naturally produces.
Ok so how do I use it?
As you can probably see from the video above, using the product is actually pretty straight forward, but just in case, here's a step by step guide for how to use the balm:
- With clean hands, use the back of your nail to scrap out a pea sized amount of balm (enough to cover a medium length beard adjust to suit your style.)
- Warm the balm in your hands until it turns to a liquid.
- Massage the balm into your beard make sure you get right down to the skin underneath.
- Use the remaining balm on your hands to tame any straight hairs and add a little styling.
- That's it your ready to go!
